Overview

In the far west, Uganda’s rich history intertwines with its vibrant culture. This region is home to the majestic Mountains of the Moon, which are the primary source of Lake George and the Kazinga Channel. Notable highlights include the famous tree-climbing lions and the Kasenyi sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park, situated below the Mweya Peninsula.

As the second-largest national park in Uganda, Queen Elizabeth National Park lies at the base of the Rwenzori Mountains and borders Lakes Edward and George. The park is celebrated for its diverse wildlife, including gazelles, Uganda kob, warthogs, Cape buffalo, elephants, and lions, which are often spotted near the park’s entrance. Keep your eyes peeled for leopards as you explore the wild!

Tour Plan

Pick Up from Entebbe Airport

Welcome to Uganda! Upon your arrival at Entebbe International Airport, our driver will be there to greet you, holding a sign with your name or your group leader’s name. After a brief introduction, he will assist you with your luggage—please embrace this warm Ugandan hospitality. You'll then be transferred to your hotel. Depending on your arrival time, you can relax in the hotel gardens, visit the zoo, or take a city tour that may include key sites like landing sites, markets, or dining at one of Uganda’s finest restaurants. All these activities can be arranged in advance. If you're continuing your journey from Ishasha or Kibale, be prepared for an evening game drive or to explore Hamukungu and Kasoga Village on Lake George. Tonight, you'll spend the night amidst the scenic beauty of the Mweya Peninsula in the park.

Drive to Kasese, Queen Elizabeth National Park

Today, we will embark on a scenic 5-hour drive through the Rift Valley, enjoying breathtaking views of Lake Albert and charming villages along the way. While the journey may be tiring, the stunning landscapes of Uganda’s farmlands and lush green countryside will keep you at ease. You will have a short stop in Kasese for lunch at a nearby restaurant before continuing on to your hotel.

Game Drive and Boat Cruise

The Kasenyi sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park is renowned for its acacia-climbing lions, with good chances of spotting leopards, buffalo, and hyenas. If you're a bird lover, this area also boasts craft shops and salty crater lakes where flamingos can often be seen. After lunch, enjoy a boat safari on the Kazinga Channel, which connects Lake George and Lake Albert. You'll have the opportunity to see an incredible number of hippos, along with other wildlife that gathers to drink at the water's edge. Witness the unique coexistence of crocodiles with other animals in this vibrant ecosystem.

Travel to Ishasha Sector

After a refreshing breakfast, we'll drive two hours south to Ishasha, known as the "Home of the Tree-Climbing Lions." Upon arrival, we'll check into the lodge, drop off our luggage, and enjoy lunch in a picturesque setting surrounded by acacia forests and palm trees swaying gently in the breeze, accompanied by the sweet songs of local birds. Ishasha’s adult lions are remarkable for their unique behavior of resting in trees alongside their cubs, creating perfect photo opportunities. We'll then set off in our safari Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof, exploring the beautiful Ishasha Swamp in search of this stunning spectacle.

Game Drive and Drive to Kampala

After an early breakfast, we’ll embark on another morning game drive in Ishasha, hoping to witness more tree-climbing lions and whatever else nature has in store for us today. After returning to the lodge for lunch and gathering your luggage, you’ll head to your next destination. If your trip concludes here, you'll travel back to Kampala via Kasese, or you may continue on to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or the Kasenyi sector.

It is a great place to shop not too far from New York. We took the bus from Port Authority and traveled through the countryside to get there.
